When I was in highschool, I was an arts major, and did a 4 month internship at the largest theater in Gothenburg. The production I was assisting was based on one of my all time favorite books and contains my all time favorite heroine Natasha Filipovna; The idiot by Dostojevki. The names are spellbutchered here, I apologies.
The play focused on 5 individuals from the book; Prince Myshkin, Natasha Filipovna, Aglaya Ivanova, Rogozin and Totski. If I would do a movie, I would do the same setup.
So who would I cast and why?
So now that you have the cast, would you like me to elaborate the plot? Or should I just leave it to your imagination :).
So what happens in the story?
Long story short (litterly in this case): SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK!
Toski a rich aristocrat uses Natasha from the time she is in her late teens as a mistress/kept woman but gets tired of her and tries to marry her off.
Myshkin being an aristocrat/prince with mental illness newly released from a mental institution recognizes his own grief and broken spirit in Natasha and they form a friendship/romantic relationship.
Natasha also meets Rogozin who falls madly in love with her. His passion and his violent tendencies make him obsessed with her. He steals money to convince her he can sustain her lifestyle.
Realizing that she is of a self destructive nature Natasha chooses Rogozin over Myshkin to spare him of pain. Myshkin find comfort in Aglaya, a more nurturing relationship forms and they become engaged. Natasha becomes jealous of Aglaya and just to spite her takes Myshkin back. Natasha and Myshkin become engaged. But just before they marry she changes her mind, and runs off with Rogozin.
Myshkin goes after her, only to find a broken Rogozin who has in a passionate feud strangled Natasha. They both spend the night in the room where she lies dead, and contact the police in the morning.
Rogozin goes to jail and Myshkin goes back to the mental institution, and has lost both Aglaya and Natasha.
